Venezia- La Serenissima

We departed for Venice early this morning. We took the ferry and within 20 minutes, we were in the enchanting Piazza San Marco. We met our guide who shared with us a bit of Venetian history. We learned about the doges, the Bridge of Sighs, the Venetian carnival, masks, glass blowing, etc.  We enjoyed a guided tour of the Basilica.  It was a very hot, sunny day and there were many tourists. Students had time to explore the winding roads that lead to Piazza San Marco, and to finish off their shopping. Most of our students went on a gondola ride. Thanks to our Nonna Teresa, they got a good deal.  Our farewell dinner was at Trattoria Al Bosco, a fine restaurant included in the Michelin Guide. We enjoyed an amazing Antipasto Bar with Polenta, prosciutto, Parmigiano, figs, melon, burrata, zucchini, etc. The first course was risotto, followed by stuffed Cornish hen with vegetables. The staff prepared a delicious lemon cake for dessert.  Tomorrow our journey together ends, and we all have many memories to cherish.

Last Day in Siena!
Students completed their courses and spent the last few days in Siena resting, doing some sightseeing and last minute shopping.  Some students visited the Basilica of San Domenico where they saw the relic of St. Catherine of Siena. They visited the magnificent Duomo of Siena and enjoyed one last night in Piazza del Campo. We said goodbye to the amazing staff of Hotel Moderno. They made us all feel like one big family.  Thank you for taking care of us!
On Friday, we headed to Abano Terme stopping in Ravenna.  What a beautiful city!  We visited the Basilica of San Vitale, which dates from the mid-6th century and contains what are probably the finest Christian Byzantine mosaics in the western world.
Ravenna is also important because Dante Alighieri, Italy's greatest poet, is buried here.  Students visited his tomb.  This was special for them, as they had read some of his cantos in The Divine Comedy.

After a busy day travelling by bus, visiting Ravenna, we arrived in Abano Terme late afternoon.
